No one would disagree that the teenage years are challenging and at the root of these issues are often failures of communication between parents and teens. Using an innovative approach developed during decades of practice, licensed therapist Susan Henkels shares simple, easy-to-use tools for productive conversations that move you and your teen past tense, angry exchanges to open communication. As communication flows with your teen the opportunity to connect with the real person behind facade emerges. This allows Kathleen Schafer’s unique approach to understanding one’s talents and skills to assist both parent and teen in seeing each other’s strengths and to acknowledge the gifts each brings to the relationship. Through the process of accepting each other and using effective communication techniques parents and teens will be able to move forward in a more harmonious and productive way creating the foundation for a healthy lifelong relationship.
While developing a healthy sound relationship with your teen is a daily endeavor this package supports adults through a difficult issue with their teen. Are you challenged by your teen’s academic performance? Behavior at home? Experimentation with drugs and/or sex? Attitudes toward siblings? If there is an immediate issue in which you wish to be supported this three-hour coaching package provides you with new insights, tools and communication techniques to move beyond the current crisis to a space where tension is diminished and forward movement can occur. In this package you have an initial hour session with Susan followed by a second session with Kathleen. After reviewing your session together, Kathleen and Susan will develop specific recommendations for you that will be discussed during your final session with Susan. If necessary, recommendations for follow-up sessions will be given at this time.
Most issues with teens did not develop overnight and will require extended focus to resolve. This package is for families committed to addressing root issues and to developing new patterns of behavior to best support the thriving of teen and parent. During a three-month period you will engage in three monthly sessions, two with Susan and one with Kathleen, to delve into root issues and established patterns that are keeping people stuck in worn out patterns of behavior. The leadership work will focus on helping adults to see how they are leading within the family structure and how their leadership beliefs may or may not be serving the relationship with the teen in the best possible way. During the three month period, Susan and Kathleen will collaborate to develop a path for restoration of family balance and the mastery of skills to move everyone toward their goals.
Just as every family is different, so are their needs. If you feel your family and teen situation needs a customized approach, one will be developed for you after a 30-minute consultation, with both Kathleen and Susan. After which they will develop a targeted strategy for meeting your needs.
