Excellent post and song. I'm glad you made me aware of that documentary.

My one critique of the song is that it comes off in a complaining manner; "what ever happened to...". I'm not sure the fairness and equality and humanity existed on a large scale in our recorded history - not that I'm aware of.

But what I like is that we're moving there. I don't think it's that we had it and lost it, I think we're bottoming out as far as our tolerance of a shallow life, and we're now looking for more depth.

As we bring the depth into our lives individually, the fairness and equality and the humanity will come forth naturally.

I love that you're using the Facebook comments already. I'm considering it myself.

I think one of the issues regarding peoplee breaking free and engaging in more meaningful work is that they don't know things can be better. Through parents, family, friends, and the six o'clock news, people have certain expectations of what their lives will be like - and not suprisingly, those expectations play out correctly.

The one point I'm conscious of where I got off that treadmill was during a particularly difficult time in college full of stress and anger. I happened to be meditating (not sure why), and it dawned on me that I used to be happier, and I used to feel differently. From that realization, I went on a spiritual path to where I am now - engaging in more meaningful work and having more meaningful relationships. And still learning.

Nice. I meditate most days and think that it's a fantastic way to chill out and unwind.
