College Bound Coaching Services
Young people bound for college face a host of challenges in finding the best educational fit. With more than 50 years combined experience in college admissions and leadership development, Judy Oberlander and Kathleen Schafer have created a unique process to support young adults and their parents to successfully navigate this process and create the best college match. By first identifying each students’ unique talents, skills and passion and understanding how to deftly communicate it orally and in writing, the college application process becomes less stressful and the applications are strengthened by these insights and professional guidance while completing applications. Each person has an important contribution to make to the world and their community. By engaging in this innovative approach to college admissions combining both leadership development and college guidance, students are ensured they are on the right path to the right school.
Hone and Polish: Writing Effective Essays
This package is designed for students who have a strong sense of self and clear idea of the colleges to which they are applying. In three one-hour sessions, the student will meet for an initial coaching session with both Judy and Kathleen to clarify goals and begin the writing process. This is followed by a one-on-one meeting with Kathleen to clearly determine unique strengths, talents and passions and develop a concise description of the student that can be used in all parts of the application process. After this session students will draft the necessary essays and will conclude the process with a one-hour coaching session in which Judy will hone and polish the essays for submission based on her extensive experience in the admissions process. Students will submit work in between the sessions and will receive feedback to ensure a strong, reflective essay is produced.
Finding The Right Path: Developing a Successful College Bound Student
This package is designed for students interested in attending college and not sure about what they want to study and which schools they wish to attend. Ideal for students in their junior year, this process takes students through an initial session with both Kathleen and Judy and then three separate sessions with each coach to determine, who they are, what they want to study and potential career paths along with the colleges and programs best suited to meet the student’s needs. Work will be done to develop strong applications and essays.
Customized Coaching Program
Just as each person is an individual there are students and situations that need a customized approach. After an initial sessions with Judy and Kathleen an individualized coaching program is developed that may included any of the above mentioned services and the following:
- High school planning

- Early decision and early action applications

- Scholarships and financial aid identification and applications
- Gap year and transfer programs
- Graduate school admissions
